6:57 p.m. The Senate adjourned today at 6:57 p.m. until 10:00 a.m. Wednesday May 3rd, 2023. Following Leader Remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of the Merchant nomination, post cloture.

At 11:30 a.m. the Senate will hold two roll call votes

  1. Confirmation of Orelia Eleta Merchant to be US District Judge for the Eastern District of New York
  2. Motion to invoke cloture on Wesley L. Hsu to be US District Judge for the Central District of California.

Following the vote on the Hsu nomination, the Senate will proceed to En Bloc consideration of H. J. Res. 39 and S. J. Res 9.

At 6:15 p.m. the Senate will hold four roll call votes

  1. Passage of H.J.Res.39, Scott (FL) Solar Tariff CRA
  2. Passage of S.J.Res.9, Marshall Lesser Prairie-Chicken CRA.
  3. (IF cloture is invoked) Confirmation of Wesley L. Hsu to be US District Judge for the Central District of California
  4. Motion to invoke cloture on LaShonda A. Hunt to be US District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois.

6:48 p.m. Senator Welch spoke about the debt ceiling.

6:43 p.m. ML Schumer started wrap up. By unanimous consent, the Senate adopted the following;

  • S. Res. 189, Congratulating the Quinnipiac University Men’s Hockey Team for Winning the 2023 National Collegiate Athletic Associations Division Ones Men’s Hockey National Championship.
  • S. Res. 190, Commemorating and Supporting the Goals of World Quantum Day.

6:42 p.m. By a vote of 51-48, the Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Orelia Merchantto be a District Judge for the Eastern District of New York. GOP in favor: Graham. Not voting: Feinstein.

6:00 p.m. The Senate began voting on cloture on the nomination of Orelia Merchant to be a District Judge for the Eastern District of New York.

5:59 p.m. By a vote of 57-42, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Robert Kirsch to be US District Judge for the District of New Jersey.
Republicans voting in favor: Senators Collins, Graham, McConnell, Murkowski, Rounds, Rubio & Tillis Not voting: Senator Feinstein.

5:00 p.m. The Senate began voting on confirmation of Robert Kirsch to be a District Jude for New Jersey.

4:45 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about attacks on federal judges.

4:35 p.m. Senator Brown spoke in support of American manufacturers.

4:21 p.m. Senator Moran spoke about classified documents.

4:02 p.m. Senator Durbin spoke about the Illinois National Guard 300th Anniversary and abortion.

3:26 p.m. Senator Grassley spoke about the budget.

3:06 p.m. Senator Kennedy spoke about Russian Nuclear Weapons.

3:05 p.m. By a vote of 65-34, The #Senate confirmed Michael Farbiarz to be United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

Senator Feinstein did not vote

2:28 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the Confirmation of Executive Calendar #121 Michael Farbiarz to be United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

1:27 p.m. The Senate Stands in recess until 2:15 p.m.

1:27 p.m. By a vote of 57-42, the Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Robert Kirsch to be US District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

GOP voting in favor: Senators Collins, Graham, McConnell, Murkowski, Rounds, Rubio & Tillis

Not voting: Senator Feinstein

12:28 p.m. The Senate began a vote on the motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #122 Robert Kirsch to be United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

12:27 p.m. By a vote of 65-34 the Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Michael Farbiarz to be United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

Not voting: Senator Feinstein

11:34 a.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Michael Farbiarz to be United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

11:28 a.m. Senator Menedenz spoke in support of the Farbiarz and Kirsch nominations.

10:54 a.m. Senator Thune spoke on the debt ceiling and on government spending.

10:33 a.m. RL McConnell spoke Supreme Court Ethics and on support for Ukraine.

10:24 a.m. ML Schumer spoke on the debt limit and on judicial nominations.

10:21 a.m. ML Schumer completed the Rule 14 process on S.1395, to temporarily suspend the debt limit through December 31, 2024 and on H.R.2811 Limit, Save, Grow Act. The bills were placed on the Calendar.

10:00 a.m. The Senate convened.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of Executive Calendar #121, Michael Farbiarz, to be US District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., the Senate will vote on the motions to invoke cloture on the Farbiarz nomination and on Executive Calendar #122, Robert Kirsch, to be US District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

Following the Kirsch cloture vote, the Senate will recess subject to the Call of the Chair to allow for the weekly caucus meetings and the 118th Congress photo.

When the Senate reconvenes following the photo, if cloture is invoked, the Senate will vote on confirmation of the Farbiarz nomination.

At approximately 5:00 p.m., if cloture is invoked, the Senate will vote on confirmation of the Kirsch nomination and on the motion to invoke cloture on Executive Calendar #123, Orelia Eleta Merchant, to be US District Judge for the Eastern District of New York.
