6:17 p.m. The Senate stands adjourned until noon on Wednesday, January 30th. Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to a Legislative Session and resume consideration of S. 1, Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act for debate only. No votes are expected Wednesday.

6:16 p.m. ML McConnell filed cloture on Senate Amendment #65 in relation to S.1, Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act

5:13 p.m. Senator Alexander spoke in tribute of cartoonist Charlie Daniel.

4:03 p.m. Senator Hassan spoke about climate change.

3:48 p.m. Senator Whitehouse spoke about climate change.

3:37 p.m. The Senate Agreed to the Motion to Proceed to S. 1 by a vote of 76-22.

  • 22 Democrats voted no: Senators Baldwin, Booker, Brown, Carper, Durbin, Feinstein, Gillibrand, Harris, Heinrich, Hirono, Kaine, Leahy, Merkley, Murphy, Peters, Reed, Sanders, Schatz, Shaheen, Udall, Van Hollen & Warren.

2:56 p.m. The Senate began voting on Motion to Proceed to S. 1 (Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act).

 2:37 p.m. Senator Durbin spoke about Russian interference in U.S. elections.

2:35 p.m. ML McConnell asked u.c. that all post-cloture time will expire and announced that at 3:00 p.m. the Senate will proceed to a vote on the motion to proceed to S.1, Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act.

12:30 p.m. The Senate recessed to accommodate the weekly caucus lunches.

11:47 a.m. ML McConnell spoke supporting S. 1, the Middle East security bill and on voter fraud.

11 a.m. Senator Van Hollen spoke about the Middle East security bill.

10:37 a.m. Senator Thune spoke about the talks on a long-term spending bill.

10:25 a.m. Minority Leader Schumer spoke about the partial government shutdown. He spoke about the charges against the Chinese company Huawei.

The Senate will convene at 10 a.m. and will resume post-cloture debate on the motion to proceed to S. 1, Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act of 2019.  If all time were used, post-cloture debate would conclude shortly after midnight.

The Senate will recess for weekly caucus lunches from 12:30 p.m. until 2:15 p.m.
