6:52 p.m. The Senate adjourned until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 29th. Following leader remarks, the Senate will resume post-cloture debate on the motion to proceed to S. 1, Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act of 2019.

6:18 p.m. Senator Wicker spoke about data privacy.

6:17 p.m. Cloture was invoked by a vote of 74 to 19.  Senators voting against: Baldwin, Brown, Carper, Durbin, Feinstein, Gillibrand, Heinrich, Hirono, Kaine, Leahy, Merkley, Murphy, Peters Reed, Sanders, Shaheen, Udall, Van Hollen, Warren.

Senators NOT voting: Booker, Cramer, Harris, Hoeven, Paul, Schatz, and Tillis.

5:30 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S.1, Strengthening America’s Security in the Middle East Act of 2019.

5:27 p.m. Senator Risch spoke about S.1.

5:15 p.m. Senator Rubio spoke about Venezuela and S.1.

4:57 p.m. Senator Collins spoke about the Taxpayer Identity Protection Act.

4:30 p.m. Senator Shaheen spoke about the shutdown.

3:32 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about the shutdown and the conference on the spending bill.

3:17 p.m.  Minority Leader Schumer spoke about the shutdown and the conference to consider a long-term spending bill.

3:08 p.m. The Senate resumed consideration of the motion to proceed to S. 1.

3:03 p.m. Majority Leader McConnell took steps under Rule XIV to move directly to the floor H.R.648, an appropriation for fiscal year 20019. He spoke about S. 1, the Middle East security measure.

At 5:30 p.m., the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 1.
