5:56 p.m. The Senate adjourned until 10 a.m. Thursday September 8th 2022. Following Leader Remarks the Senate will resume consideration of the Executive Calendar #736 Andre B. Mathis to be United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit post cloture. At 11:30 a.m. the Senate will vote on confirmation of the Mathis nomination.

Following the 11:30 a.m. vote, the Senate will resume consideration of Executive Calendar #986 Salvador Mendoza, Jr. to be United States Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit. The Senate will vote on the motion to invoke cloture of the Mendoza nomination at 1:45 p.m.

5:44 p.m. Senator Grassley spoke about the FBI.

4:42 p.m. Senator Brown asked for unanimous consent for the Senate to agree to S.Res.737 – A resolution designating August 10, 2022, as “Toxic Exposure Awareness Day”. There was no objection.

5:34 p.m. Senator Brown spoke about Labor and unions. He also paid tribute to David Kiska, a Veteran from Ohio.

4:49 p.m. Senator Blackburn spoke about the Biden Administration.

4:34 p.m. Senator Barrasso spoke about inflation and Democrat spending.

4:28 p.m. Senator Wyden spoke about raising taxes.

4:14 p.m. Senator Scott (FL) spoke about IRS agents. Senator Scott then asked for unanimous consent for the senate to pass S. 4798. Senator Wyden objected.

3:57 p.m. Senator Durbin spoke about student debt and for-profit universities.

3:47 p.m. By a vote of 48-45, the Senate invoked cloture on Andre B. Mathis to be United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit. Senator Kennedy voted Yay. Senators not voting: Burr, Crapo, Menendez, Murkowski, Ossoff, Rosen, and Sullivan.

2:54 p.m. By a vote of 50-44 the Senate confirmed John Z. Lee to be United States Circuit Judge for the Seventh Circuit.

2:15 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the Confirmation of John Z. Lee to be United States Circuit Judge for the Seventh Circuit.

12:36 p.m. The Senate recessed until 2:15 p.m.

12:27 p.m. Senator Klobuchar spoke about Ukraine.

12:00 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about the border.

11:01 a.m. Senator Thune spoke on inflation.

10:49 a.m. RL McConnell spoke on government spending, on inflation, and job losses.

The Senate will convene at 10am. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and resume consideration of the nomination of John Z. Lee to be United States Circuit Judge for the Seventh Circuit, post-cloture.

The Senate will recess from 12:30 p.m. until 2:15 p.m. to allow for the weekly caucus luncheons.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the Senate will proceed to two roll call votes relative to the following:

1)Confirmation of the nomination of John Z. Lee to be United States Circuit Judge for the Seventh Circuit.

2)Motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Andre B. Mathis to be United States Circuit Judge for the Sixth Circuit.
