6:48 p.m. The Senate agreed by UC to adjourn until 12:00 noon on Wednesday, April 29th and be in a period of morning business. At 2:15 p.m. the Senate will vote on confirmation of the nomination of Robert Cekada, to be Director, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. Further votes are expected at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Rosen and Bennet Congressional Review Act joint resolutions.

6:42 p.m. Senator Lummis wrapped up for the evening. Passed by unanimous consent: S. 2934, limiting the availability of civil actions affected by US sanctions; S. 272, improving the safety of infant formula; S 4161, authorizing the transfer from the Navy to the Space and Rocket Center Commission of certain Tomcat aircraft; S Res 668, designating April 2026 as “Second Chance Month”; S Res 692-697 en bloc.

5:59 p.m. Senator Kennedy spoke about the White House Correspondents Dinner incident, the speech earlier today by King Charles, climate change and injection wells.

5:58 p.m. The point of order was well taken against SJ Res 124, 51-47. Republicans voting against: Collins and Paul. Democrats voting in favor: Fetterman. Not voting; Tuberville and Warner.

5:09 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the Point of Order with respect to S.J.Res.124 – A joint resolution to direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against the Republic of Cuba that have not been authorized by Congress.

12:15 p.m. By a party-line vote of 52-47, the Senate proceeded to Executive Session for the consideration of S. Res. 690, En Bloc Nominations. Senator Tuberville did not vote.

11:08 a.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to proceed to executive session to consider S.Res.690 – An executive resolution authorizing the en bloc consideration on Executive Session of certain nominations on the Executive Calendar.

11:03 Senator Wyden spoke about FISA.

11:01 a.m. Majority Leader Thune received unanimous consent that at a time to be determined by the Majority and Minority Leaders that the Senate vote on cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 4344, a bill to extend section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) of 1978 for three years, no later than Friday, May 1, 2026.

10:00 a.m. The Senate convened.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. Following Leader Remarks, the Senate will be in a period of Morning Business with senators permitted to speak therein for up to ten minutes each.

At approximately 11:00 a.m., the Senate is expected to proceed to two roll call votes relative to the following:

  1. Motion to proceed to Executive Session for the consideration of S.Res.690, En Bloc Nominations.
  2. Motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 4344, a bill to extend section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978 for three years.

The Senate will recess from 12:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. to allow for weekly caucus meetings and the joint meeting.

At 3:00 p.m., King Charles III will address a Joint Meeting of Congress in the Hall of the House of Representatives. Senators will proceed to the House Chamber at 2:25 p.m.

During today’s session, Senator Kaine is expected to make a motion to discharge the Senate Foreign Relations Committee of S.J.Res.124, A joint resolution to direct the removal of United States Armed Forces from hostilities within or against the Republic of Cuba that have not been authorized by Congress. If the motion is made, a roll call vote relative to the motion to discharge can be expected at approximately 5:00 p.m.
