4:27 p.m. The Senate adjourned and will next convene at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 1. Following leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of Executive Calendar #1068 Elizabeth Wilson Hanes to be U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Virginia. At 5:30 p.m. the Senate will vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the Hanes nomination.

  • S. 3369, Max Cleland VA Medical Center Act, was passed by unanimous consent.
  • S. 4490, Digital Citizenship and Media Literacy Act, was transferred to the Subcommittee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
  • H.R. 7334, COVID–19 EIDL Fraud Statute of Limitations Act of 2022, was passed by voice vote.
  • H.R. 7352, PPP and Bank Fraud Enforcement Harmonization Act of 2022, was passed by voice vote.

2:42 p.m. By a vote of 61-30, the Senate confirmed David Pressman to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Hungary. Republican senators voting in favor: Blunt, Capito, Collins, Cornyn, Cramer, Crapo, Graham, McConnell, Moran, Portman, Risch, Romney, Rounds, Tillis, Toomey, and Young. Senators not voting: Burr, Duckworth, Durbin, Inhofe, Leahy, Manchin, Murkowski, Sanders, and Sasse.

1:51 p.m. The Senate is now voting on Confirmation of Executive Calendar #1063 David Pressman to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Hungary.

1:50 p.m. Senator Blackburn changed her vote by unanimous consent to YEA on passage of H.R. 7776 (WRDA), as it will not affect the outcome.

1:42 p.m. Senator Hirono spoke in support of the nomination of Lester Martinez-Lopez to be an Assistant Secretary of Defense and asked unanimous consent that the Senate confirm the Martinez-Lopez nomination. Senator Marshall objected.

1:33 p.m. Senator Wicker spoke on Russia and the imprisonment of Vladimir Kara-Murza

1:26 p.m. Senator Moran spoke on the PACT act.

1:16 p.m. Senator Murphy spoke on the PACT act and reconciliation and later on womens rights.

1:15 p.m. Majority Leader Schumer achieved UC to change the 1:45 p.m. vote to confirmation of the nomination of David Pressman to be Ambassador to Hungary.

1:14 p.m. The Senate passed HR 7776, 92-2. Senators voting against: Blackburn and Braun. Senators not voting: Burr, Durbin, Leahy, Manchin, Murkowski and Sasse.

12:25 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on passage of H.R. 7776, as amended, the Water Resources Development Act. 60 vote threshold.

12:01 p.m. Senators Cardin, Capito, Cramer, and Carper spoke on WRDA.

12:00 p.m. The Senate will proceed to a previous UC agreement on HR 7776, the Water Resources Development Act, WRDA.
