6:46 p.m. The Senate stands adjourned until 10:00 a.m. Tuesday January 28th 2025. Following Leader Remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of the nomination of Sean Duffy to be Secretary of Transportation, post cloture.

At 12:30 p.m. the Senate will recess until 2:00 p.m. to allow for the weekly caucus meetings.

At 2:15 p.m. the Senate will vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 23, the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act

6:42 p.m. Majority Leader Thune filed cloture on the following.

  • Lee Zeldin Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency
  • Douglas Burgum to be Secretary of Interior.
  • Christopher Wright to be Secretary of Energy.
  • Douglas Collins to be Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

6:41 p.m. By a vote of 97-0, the Senate invoked cloture on the nomination of Sean Duffy to be Secretary of Transportation. Senators Ossoff, Padilla and Sheehy did not vote.
6:09 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Sean Duffy to be Secretary of Transportation.

6:08 p.m. By a vote of 68-29, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Scott Bessent to be Secretary of the Treasury. Dem and independent senators voting in favor: Blunt Rochester, Booker, Cantwell, Coons, Fetterman, Gallego, Gillibrand, Hassan, Hickenlooper, Kaine, Kelly, King, Peters, Shaheen, Slotkin, and Warner. Senators Ossof, Padilla, and Sheehy did not vote.

5:30 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on confirmation of Scott Bessent to be Secretary of the Treasury.

5:28 p.m. Senator Cruz spoke in favor of the nomination.

5:18 p.m. Senator Crapo spoke in favor of the nomination of Scott Bessent to be Secretary of the Treasury. Senator Wyden responded in opposition.

5:06 p.m. Senator Wyden spoke against the nomination of Scott Bessent to be Secretary of the Treasury.

4:59 p.m. Senator Baldwin spoke in favor of the nomination of Sean Duffy to be Secretary of Transportation.

4:52 p.m. Senator Warren spoke against the nomination of Scott Bessent to be Secretary of the Treasury.

4:37 p.m. Senator Barrasso received unanimous consent to the following resolutions to be agreed to en bloc: S.Res.39, S.Res.40, and S.Res.41.

3:58 p.m. Democratic Leader Schumer spoke on artificial intelligence, the spread of bird flu, the price of eggs, inspector generals, the J6 pardons, Presidential cabinet nominations and Holocaust Remembrance Day.

3:35 p.m. Senator Durbin spoke on elections in Venezuela and the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be Secretary of Health and Human Services.

12:13 p.m. Senator Grassley spoke in support of the Bessent nomination.

12:07 p.m. Majority Leader Thune spoke on the Bessent and Duffy nominations.

12:03 p.m. Senator Grassley spoke on Holocaust Remembrance Day and an inquiry into Credit Suisse’s Nazi ties.

12:00 p.m. The Senate convened.

The Senate will convene at 12:00 noon and following any Leader remarks will resume consideration of the nomination of Scott Bessent to be Secretary of the Treasury.

At approximately 5:30 p.m., the Senate will proceed to two votes:
1. Confirmation of the nomination of Scott Bessent to be Secretary of the Treasury.
2. Cloture on the nomination of Sean Duffy to be Secretary of Transportation.

At approximately 12:00 noon, if cloture is invoked, the Senate will vote on confirmation of the Duffy nomination.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the Senate will vote on cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R.23, regarding the International Criminal Court.
