The Senate has adjourned until 10:00 am, Tuesday, April 17th and will proceed to the consideration of Carlos G. Muniz to be General Counsel, Department of Education.

During wrap-up:

  • Res. 465, Electing Michael C. Stenger as the Sergeant at Arms of the Senate, was agreed to by unanimous consent.
  • S.Res. 466, 467, 468 were agreed to by unanimous consent en bloc.

7:03 p.m. Senator Udall spoke about the tribal labor bill.

6:56 p.m. The motion to invoke cloture on the motion to concur in the House message to accompany S.140 was not agreed to by a vote of 54 to 41. Senators Duckworth, McCain, Rubio, and Tillis did not vote. Senator Portman voted NO. Senators Baldwin, Heinrich, Heitkamp, Kaine, King, Tester, Udall and Warner voted YES.

ML McConnell filled the tree and filed cloture on the motion to concur in the House amendment  to S.140 with an amendment. Cloture was also filed on the nomination of Emily Coody Marks to be United States District Judge for the Middle District of Alabama.

5:35 p.m. Roll call vote began on cloture on the motion to concur in the House message to accompany S. 140.

5:27 p.m. Senator Hoeven spoke on the tribal labor bill.

5:03 p.m. Senator Brown spoke on the tribal labor bill and privatizing the VA.

4:42 p.m. Senator Moran spoke in favor of the tribal labor bill.

4:39 p.m. Senator Flake spoke in favor of the tribal labor bill.

4:35 p.m. Senator Barrasso spoke in favor of the tribal labor bill.

4:06 p.m. ML McConnell spoke about the military action in Syria, the Tribal Labor Sovereignty Act, and tax reform.  S. 2667, to amend the Agricultural Marketing Act of 1946 to provide for state and tribal regulation of hemp production, had its second reading.

3:52 p.m. Senator Daines spoke in favor of the tribal labor bill.

3:02 p.m. The Senate resumed consideration of the tribal labor bill.
