7:57 p.m. The Senate adjourned and will convene on Wednesday, October 20th at 10 a.m. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and resume consideration of the nomination of Catherine Elizabeth Lhamon, of California, to be Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, Department of Education.

At 11:00 a.m., the Senate will vote on cloture on the nomination of Catherine Lhamon to be Assistant Secretary for Civil Rights, Department of Education. At 1:45 p.m., if cloture is invoked on the Lhamon nomination, the Senate will proceed to 2 votes on: 1. Confirmation of the Lhamon nomination 2. Motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S.2747, Freedom to Vote Act.

7:37 p.m. Senator Portman spoke on inflation.

6:32 p.m. Senator Lee spoke on vaccine mandates and asked unanimous consent to call up and pass S. 2988. Senator Murray objected.

6:31 p.m. By a vote of 50-49, the Senate discharged the Nelson nomination from the Banking Committee. Senator Blunt did not vote.

5:30 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on the motion to discharge from the Banking Committee, PN604, Brian Eddie Nelson, CA, to be Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Crimes, Department of the Treasury.

5:03 p.m. Senator Grassley spoke on the cost of prescription drugs.

4:35 p.m. Senators Crapo, Grassley, and Young spoke on spoke in opposition to the provision regarding the IRS having access to personal accounts when transactions are over $10,000.

4:20 p.m. Senator Brown spoke on the Ohio parents who saw extra tax cuts in their bank accounts to help offset the cost of daycare.

3:55 p.m. Senator Scott spoke in opposition to the provision regarding the IRS having access to personal accounts when transactions are over $600.

3:25 p.m. Senator Tuberville spoke on immigration issues.

3:10 p.m. Senator Murray spoke on the Voting Rights Act legislation.

3:05 p.m. Leader Schumer asked that the Committee on Banking., Housing and Finance be discharged from further consideration of Brian Eddie Nelson, of CA, to be Undersecretary for Terrorism and Financial crimes. He also set up 2 votes at 5:30 p.m. to the Motion to discharge the Nelson nomination from the Banking committee.

2:18 p.m. The Senate is voting on confirmation of Executive Calendar #261, Christine O’Hearn, to be US District Judge for the District of New Jersey. The nomination was confirmed 52-44.

2:15 p.m. The Senate returned from recess and Senator Menendez spoke supporting the O’Hearn nomination.

1:00 p.m. By a vote of 53-44, the Senate invoked cloture on the O’Hearn nomination. The Senate stands in recess until 2:15 p.m.

Republicans voting Yes: Collins, Graham, and Murkowski.

Senators not voting: Blunt, Rounds, and Tillis.

11:54 a.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on Christine O’Hearn to be U.S. District Judge for the District of New Jersey.`

11:40 a.m. Senator Cornyn spoke on elections.

11:30 a.m. Senator Leahy spoke on appropriations.

11:14 a.m. Senator Thune spoke on inflation.

10:47 a.m. Senator Durbin paid tribute to Timuel Black and later on voting rights.

10:35 a.m. Republican Leader McConnell spoke on the economy and recent protests at the Department of Interior, and crime.

10:18 a.m. Majority Leader Schumer spoke on voting rights and the “build back better” initiative.

10:00 a.m. The Senate convened.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. and following Leader remarks, will resume consideration of Executive Calendar #261, Christine O’Hearn, of New Jersey to be United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey.

At 11:30 a.m., the Senate will vote on cloture on the O’Hearn nomination. Following the cloture vote the Senate will recess until 2:15 p.m. to allow for the weekly caucus meetings.

At 2:20 p.m., there will be a roll call vote on confirmation of the O’Hearn nomination.

Additional roll call votes in relation to discharging nomination(s) are expected during today’s session of the Senate.
