Upon conclusion of morning business, the Senate will resume consideration of Executive Calendar #327, Anne Witkowsky to be an Assistant Secretary of State for Conflict and Stabilization Operations.

At a time TBD, the Senate will vote on confirmation of Gabriel Sanchez to be US Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit.

4:17 p.m. RL McConnell paid tribute to former Senator Harry Reid and spoke about COVID-19 and voting rights.

3:56 p.m. Senator Moran paid tribute to former Senator Isakson.

3:41 p.m. Senator Grassley spoke about checks and balances of the government.

3:32 p.m. Senator Merkley spoke on the Chinese Communist Party.

3:16 p.m. Senator Barrasso spoke on the Biden Administration.

2:41 p.m. Senator Blackburn spoke on the Biden Administration.

2:26 p.m. Senator Cortez Masto paid tribute to Senator Harry Reid.

10:45 a.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about bipartisanship, voting rights, the filibuster, NDAA, China and national security.

10:25 a.m. Senator Durbin paid tribute to former Senator Harry Reid.

10:10 a.m. ML Schumer paid tribute to former Senator Harry Reid, Build Back Better, voting rights and January 6th.

10:09 a.m. The confirmation vote on Sanchez has been postponed to a time TBD.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. and following Leader remarks, will resume consideration of Executive Calendar #327, Anne Witkowsky to be an Assistant Secretary of State (Conflict and Stabilization Operations).

At approximately 12:00 noon, the Senate will vote on confirmation of Gabriel Sanchez to be US Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit.

Following the vote, the Senate will recess until 2:15 p.m. to allow for the weekly caucus meetings.

On Monday, cloture was filed on the Witkowsky nomination. That cloture motion would ripen during Wednesday’s session.

Other UC agreements:

  1. At a time to be determined no later than January 14, the Senate proceed to the consideration of S.3436, regarding Nord Stream 2 pipeline for up to two hours of debate, after which the Senate proceed to a vote on passage of S.3436, with 60-affirmative votes required for passage, with no amendments in order.
  2. At a time to be determined, the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on confirmation of Holly Thomas to be US Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit.
