There will be 2 votes at 11:50 a.m.:

  1. Confirmation of Kelly Craft, of Kentucky, to be Representative of the United States to the UN General Assembly.
  2. Motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Elizabeth Darling, of Texas, to be Commissioner on Children, Youth, and Families, Department of Health and Human Services.

There will be 4 votes at 2:15 p.m.

  1. Confirmation vote on the Darling nomination.
  2. Motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Stephen Akard, of Indiana, to be Director of the Office of Foreign Missions.
  3. Motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Dale Cabaniss, of Virginia, to be Director of the Office of Personnel Management.
  4. Motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of James Byrne, of Virginia, to be Deputy Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

The Senate will recess for the weekly caucus lunches following the cloture vote on the Darling nomination.

  • H.Con.Res. 57, authorizing the use of Emancipation Hall for an event to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the first African slaves to the territory that would become the US, was agreed to by unanimous consent.
  • S.349, Reviving America’s Scenic Byways Act, and committee substitute, was agreed to by voice vote.
  • S.1689, to permit State to transfer certain funds from the clean water revolving fund of a State to the drinking water revolving fund of the State in certain circumstances, was agreed to by voice vote.
  • H.R. 831, Reviving America’s Scenic Byways Act of 2019, was agreed to by voice vote.

6:32 p.m. Senator Portman paid tribute to the 6 Dayton police officers who confronted a shooter.

6:19 p.m. Senator Gardner spoke about the Bureau of Land Management.

6:15 p.m. Senator Isakson paid tribute to former University of Georgia head football coach and athletic director Vince Dooley.

6:15 p.m. Cloture was invoked on the Craft nomination by a vote of 54 to 38.

5:32 p.m. The Senate is now voting on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of Kelly Craft to be representative to the U.N. General Assembly.

4:49 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke about gun control.

4:37 p.m. Senator Schumer spoke about August recess and gun control.

4:00 p.m. Senator Klobuchar spoke about gun control, election security, and the cost of prescription drugs.

3:47 p.m. Senator Brown paid tribute to Dayton police officers Knight, Vincent Carter, Ryan Nable, Jeremy Campbell, and David Denlinger.

The Senate will convene at 3:00 pm. Following any Leader remarks, the Senate will proceed to Executive Session and resume consideration of Executive Calendar #403, Kelly Craft, of Kentucky, to be Representative of the United States of America to the Sessions of the General Assembly of the United Nations during her tenure of service as Representative of the United States of America to the United Nations.

At 5:30 pm, the Senate will proceed to a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the Craft nomination.
