The Senate stands adjourned until 10:00am on Tuesday, September 14, 2021. Following Leader remarks, the Senate will resume consideration of Executive Calendar #64, James Richard Kvaal, of Massachusetts, to be Under Secretary of Education, post cloture. At 11:30am, the Senate will vote on confirmation of the Kvaal nomination followed by a cloture vote on Executive Calendar #252, David G. Estudillo, of Washington, to be United States District Judge for the Western District of Washington. Following the cloture vote, the Senate will recess until 2:15pm to allow for the weekly caucus meetings. At 2:20pm, all post-cloture time on the Estudillo nomination will expire and the Senate will vote on confirmation of the nomination followed by a cloture vote on Executive Calendar #260, Angel Kelley, of Massachusetts, to be United States District Judge for the District of Massachusetts. Finally, at 5:30pm, all post-cloture time on the Kelley nomination will expire and the Senate will vote on confirmation of the nomination followed by a cloture vote on Executive Calendar #251, Veronica S. Rossman, of Colorado, to be United States Circuit Judge for the Tenth Circuit. Cloture has been filed on the following items: 1. Executive Calendar #252, David G. 6:17 p.m. Cloture was invoked on the Kvaal nomination, 55-37.

5:39 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the nomination of James Kvaal to be Under Secretary of Education.

5:14 p.m. Senator Menendez spoke on foreign affairs nominations and the Senate confirmed by voice vote exec. cal. #335, the nomination of Donald Lu, to be Assistant Secretary of State for South Asian Affairs. Senator Cruz spoke on the nominee.

Additionally, the Senate confirmed the following by voice vote:

exec. cal. #150 Brett M. Holmgren, MN, to be an Assistant Secretary of State, Intelligence and Research.

3:23 p.m. Majority Leader Schumer spoke on the budget, the debt ceiling, and voting rights.

The Senate will convene at 3:00 p.m., and following any Leader remarks, will resume consideration of the nomination of James Kvaal to be Under Secretary of Education.

At 5:30 p.m., the Senate will vote on cloture on the Kvaal nomination.
