6:54 p.m. Senator Merkley spoke on Iran and the lack of debate in the Senate.

6:33 p.m. Senator Wyden spoke on Saudi Arabia, Jamal Khashoggi, President Trump vilifying the press; and protecting press sources.

6:27 p.m. Senators Inhofe and Reed spoke on the defense authorization.

6:25 p.m. ML McConnell achieved unanimous consent that following the remarks of Senators Inhofe, Reed, Wyden and Merkley, the Senate adjourn until 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

6:20 p.m. ML McConnell filled the tree and filed cloture on the substitute amendment and the bill.

6:20 p.m. The motion to proceed was agreed to 86-6.

Voting no: Carper, Klobucahar, Markey, Merkley, Udall and Wyden.

Not voting: 4 Republicans: Kennedy, Rounds, Sasse and Toomey; 3 Democrats: Gillibrand, Harris and Warren; 1 Independent: Sanders.

3:41 p.m. Minority Leader Schumer spoke about the September 11 Victim Compensation Fund. Then he spoke about the danger of escalation Iran. Finally, he addressed the southern border.

3:15 p.m. Senator Cornyn spoke on the security challenges associated with technological developments. Then he spoke about the Defense Authorization Act.

The Senate will convene at 3:00 p.m. and resume consideration of the motion to proceed to S.1790, the National Defense Authorization Act, post-cloture.

At 5:30 p.m. the Senate will vote on adoption of the motion to proceed to S. 1790.
