11 a.m. The Senate adjourned until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, whereupon it will resume consideration of the motion to proceed to S. 1.

10:50 a.m. Minority Leader Schumer spoke about the shutdown of federal agencies.

10:31 a.m. Senator McConnell moved to proceed to S.1. He filed cloture on the motion to proceed. He took steps under Rule XIV to bring to the floor S. 28, H.R. 28, and H.J.Res. 1.

Senator McConnell secured consent for the Senate to adjourn after Senator Schumer’s remarks and to reconvene at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8. After leader remarks on Tuesday, the Senate will resume consideration of S. 1., with cloture to ripen at 5:30 p.m.

10:13 a.m. Senator Grassley paid tribute to the late Senator John Culver, Democrat of Iowa.

10:02 a.m. Majority Leader McConnell moved under Rule XIV to bring directly to the floor S. 1, S. 21, and S-. . Senator McConnell spoke about the shutdown of several federal agencies. He spoke about S. 1, legislation to address defense matters, including assistance to Israel and the conflict in Syria.
