7:34 p.m. Senator Lummis wrapped up for the evening. Items passed by UC: S 1038, regarding the National Missing ad Un-Identifying Persons system.

6:31 p.m. Senators Reed and Whitehouse paid tribute to Frank Caprio.

6:30 p.m. By a vote of 84-14, the Senate invoked cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 2296, the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 2026.

  • Senators voting no: Baldwin, Booker, Kennedy, Markey, Merkley, Padilla, Paul, Sanders, Schatz, Smith, Van Hollen, Warren, Welch, and Wyden
  • Senators Scott (SC) and Tillis did not vote.

5:27 p.m. The Senate began a roll call vote on the motion to invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to S. 2296, the National Defense Authorization Act.

5:17 p.m. Senator Wicker spoke on the NDAA.

5:05 p.m. Senator Reed spoke on deploying the national guard.

4:56 p.m. Majority Leader Thune filed cloture on the following nominations:

  1. Maria A. Lanahan, of Missouri, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Missouri.
  2. Edward L. Artau, of Florida, to be United States District Judge for the Southern District of Florida.

3:50 p.m. Senator Durbin spoke on voice votes in the Senate and the Trump Administration.

3:36 p.m. Minority Leader Schumer spoke on the Trump administration.

3:25 p.m. Majority Leader Thune spoke on the Senate agenda.

3:06 p.m. Senator Grassley spoke on Senator Ernst’s retirement announcement. He then spoke on the upcoming school year and paid tribute to teachers.
