12:19 p.m. The Senate invoked cloture on the Mooty nomination, 62-34.

11:46 a.m. The Senate did not invoke cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 5371, the House-passed CR, 51-45.

  • Republicans voting against: Paul & Thune- only in order to offer a motion to reconsider.

10:46 a.m. Senator Barrasso spoke on the government shutdown.

10:28 a.m. Minority Leader Schumer spoke on the government shutdown. He then spoke on an article published yesterday in Politico. He also discussed the Gateway Program.

10:07 a.m. Majority Leader Thune spoke on the House-passed Continuing Resolution, H.R. 5371.

10:02 a.m. Senator Grassley spoke on rural health care.

10:00 a.m. The Senate is now in session and is in a period of morning business.

The Senate will convene at 10:00 a.m. and be in a period of morning business.

At 11:00 a.m. the Senate will proceed to two votes:
1. Cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 5371, the House passed CR.
2. Cloture on the nomination of Harold Mooty to be a District Judge for northern Alabama. 

If cloture is invoked on the Mooty nomination, the confirmation vote will occur at a time to be determined no earlier than Monday, October 20th.

At 1:30 p.m. the Senate will proceed to one vote: Cloture on the motion to proceed to H.R. 4016, Department of Defense Appropriations Act, 2026.
