5:46 p.m. Senator Lee passed by UC a resolution regarding the 1995 attack on Oklahoma City, and paid tribute to former Governor of Utah Bangerter, who recently passed away.
5:32 p.m. Senator Sullivan spoke on the Iran nuclear agreement.
5:15 p.m. ML McConnell passes the following by Unanimous Consent: S Res 137 ( Congratulating Roosevelt University on the occasion of its 70th anniversary.); S Res 138 (Congratulating Providence College on winning the NCAA hockey Division One Championship). The following bills were read for the first time: HR 636 (regarding small business tax relief); HR 644, regarding charitable contributions of food inventory); HR 1295, regarding improving the process for making determinations with respect to whether organizations are exempt from taxation; HR 1314 (regarding tax exempt organizations appeal rights); and S 984, regarding providing medicare beneficiary access to I-Traffic accessories.
5:12 p.m. ML McConnell achieved UC that at 5:00pm on Monday April 20, the Senate proceed to Executive Session to consider the nomination of George Hanks to be a US District Judge for the Southern District of Texas, with a roll call vote expected at 5:30 p.m.
5:08 p.m. ML McConnell shared that the Senate is continuing to work on the trafficking bill, hope to vote on orderly list of amendments and passage next week, which would be followed by a vote on the Lynch nomination and the Iran bill.
Offers UC that at a time to be determined, Senate vote on motion to proceed to HR 1191, that if the motion to proceed to is agreed to, Senator Corker or his designee be recognized to offer a substitute amendment that is the text of S. 615, the Iran bill. DL Reid reserving the right to object, offered a modified UC to take up the Lynch nomination Monday, to which ML McConnell objected. DL Reid withdrew his objection related to HR 1191/S. 615.
4:46 p.m. Senator Heitkamp paid tribute to Vietnam Veterans From North Dakota.
3:26 p.m. Senator Kaine paid tribute to the victim’s of the VA Tech shooting and comprehensive background checks for firearm purchases.
3:02 p.m. Senator Franken spoke about mental health legislation.
2:32 p.m. Senator Inhofe spoke about his amendment (#376) on the immigration of children.
2:27 p.m. By a voice vote, the Senate confirmed the nomination of Jonodev Osceola Chaudhuri to be Chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission.
2:26 p.m. By a vote of 95 to 2, the Senate confirmed the Deyo nomination. (Senators Lee and Vitter opposed, Senators Boxer, Cruz, and Rubio missed.)
1:53 p.m. Senator Johnson and Senator Carper spoke in favor of the Russel Deyo confirmation as undersecretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
The next vote is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on nominations.
11:30 a.m. Senator Coats spoke on the wastefulness of the complicated tax code.
10:55 a.m. After a colloquy in which Senator Cornyn expressed optimism about a compromise on the sexual trafficking bill, Leader McConnell withdrew the cloture motion on the Cornyn amendment.
10:10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Senators Cornyn and Blumenthal spoke on the abortion language in S.178.
10:11 a.m. Minority Leader Reid spoke about the abortion language in S. 178.
10:02 a.m. Majority Leader McConnell spoke about the “Hyde” abortion spending language in the sexual trafficking bill (S. 178).

The Senate will convene at 10 a.m. and will resume consideration of S. 178, the sexual trafficking bill.
The filing deadline for second-degree amendments to the Cornyn amendment (#1120) is 10:30 a.m.
At 11 a.m., the Senate will vote on cloture for the Cornyn amendment to the sexual trafficking bill.
At 2 p.m., the Senate will vote on these nominations:
o Russell Deyo to be Under Secretary for Management of the Department of Homeland Security.
o Jonodev Osceola Chaudhuri to be Chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission. (A voice vote is expected.)
