The Senate is not in session today.
The Senate will next convene on Monday, March 16 at 3 p.m.
After morning business, the Senate will resume consideration of the sexual trafficking bill (S. 178).
First-degree amendments to the committee-reported substitute and the underlying bill may be filed until 5 p.m. on Monday. Deadline to file second-degree amendments will be on Tuesday, March 17.
At 5 p.m. Monday, the Senate will begin 30 minutes’ consideration of these nominations:
— Carlos Monje, Jr., to be an Assistant Secretary of Transportation;
— Manson K. Brown to be an Assistant Secretary of Commerce
A roll call vote on confirmation of the Monje nomination will occur at about 5:30 p.m. Brown’s confirmation is expected to be by voice vote.
Cloture has been filed on the committee-reported substitute amendment to S. 178 and the underlying bill. A cloture vote is expected at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17.
These amendments to the trafficking bill are pending:
— A committee-reported substitute;
— Portman (#270) to let states improve the identification of child victims of sex trafficking;
— Portman (#271) to amend the definition of “homeless person” in law to include certain homeless children and youth;
— Vitter second-degree amendment (#284) to Portman #271, clarifying which U.S.-born individuals U.S. citizens at birth.
